Creating something real, something that lasts.

Handmade leather goods from a small South African workshop. No machines. No shortcuts. Just patience, leather, and the satisfaction of building something authentic.

01 — The Story

How WCR began

I'm Wicus. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I had time on my hands and a simple need: a quality backpack for university that didn't exist yet. So I decided to make one myself. I'd never done this before. Everything I've learned — every stitch, every cut, every technique — has been self-taught through trial, error, and pure determination. I'm mostly winging it.

My grandfather was the deepest initial spark. In his younger years, he also practised the craft as a hobby. I asked him for guidance on that first project. From there, I made the journey my own. What started as solving a problem turned into a love for creating something real in a world of mass-produced shortcuts.

02 — The Craft

One stitch at a time.

Today, WCR is a passion project and hobby that I spend time on when I can. Every piece I create is handmade — no machines, no shortcuts. Just leather, tools, patience, and the satisfaction of building something authentic with my own hands. I occasionally explore other crafts like woodwork out of curiosity, but leather goods remain my focus.

This isn't about income. It's about respect for the craft, the value of time spent intentionally, and the unique journey from raw materials to something you can hold, use, and feel the care in. Creating something real, something that lasts, something uniquely mine.
